Bread is easiest to waste when the whole loaf remains on the counter waiting for a week that turns out differently. Slicing and freezing part of it early creates a more useful reserve.
Pack slices in a way that lets you separate the number you need. Toast from frozen if your appliance supports it, or thaw using a suitable method. Keep an eye on thickness: a very thick frozen slice can color outside before the middle is ready.
Check ingredients for milk, butter, eggs, honey, or other additions when choosing vegan bread. A rustic appearance is not an ingredient guarantee. If bread becomes moldy, discard it rather than cutting around the visible spot; the small patch you can see may not show the full extent of spoilage.
